HEALTH AND SECURITY:

When you arrive at the lodge your guide will inform you about what you should and should not do while you are at the lodge and in the forest.

Malaria is endemic in the forest and we suggest that you come with insect repellent and malaria prophylaxis. Yellow fever is present but uncommon. If you have a vaccination certificate bring it with you.

VACCINATIONS:
None are mandatory for entering Peru, but several are recommended. For general travel, typhoid, infectious hepatitis, and polio are commonly advised. Consult your physician or local traveller's clinic.
However for the Amazon rainforest, yellow fever vaccination is recommended. If you have not been vaccinated, free vaccinations are available at the Puerto Maldonado airport.

MORE ABOUT:
-Malaria. There is a great diversity of mosquito species in the area of which a few are capable of carrying the malarial parasite. These species are generally active between dusk and dawn. So apply plenty of repellent at these times. The risk of contracting malaria at the lodge is low, though precautions should still be taken.

-Leishmaniasis. This is a warty disease (related to leprosy) endemic to some areas of the Amazon, locally known as “uta”. It is carried by small biting black fly ( Manta blanca ). Again, these flies are most active between dusk and dawn. Should you become infected a wound will appear several weeks after the initial bite. It may be dry or weeping, and may grow or reduce in size. It should be treated immediately. It is totally curable with the correct diagnosis
